AEQ Audio Technology in the renovation of the Portuguese radio station Correio da Manhã Radio

Medialivre, formerly known as Cofina, is one of Portugal’s largest media companies. Founded in 1995, it was listed on the Lisbon Stock Exchange in 1998, and since 2023, soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo has been its main shareholder.

The Medialivre group currently manages five newspapers, including its national flagship Correio da Manhã. It also publishes nine leading magazines, such as GQ, Automotor, and Vogue, and operates a television channel, Correio da Manhã TV. A new radio project, Correio da Manhã Radio, has recently been added to this media offering.

The company’s technical management has relied on AEQ technology to equip virtually all of the audio and video facilities at the new Correio da Manhã Radio station in Lisbon. The project includes, among other systems, mixing consoles, audio encoders, and visual radio solutions.

The heart of the radio studios is the AEQ CAPITOL digital mixing console, while communications are supported by AEQ VENUS4 audio codecs and the AEQ SYSTEL VoIP telephony platform. The system is completed with the AEQ VISUALRPLUS visual radio solution.

The project also includes interconnection and installation equipment, such as AEQ HB02 interconnection boxes and the AEQ NETBOX matrix. The entire infrastructure has been designed using IP technology, with multi-channel connectivity via the Dante-AES67 protocol.

AEQ CAPITOL IP is a digital audio mixing console whose IP connectivity is based on a single module integrated into its core, capable of managing 16 input channels and 16 output channels.

Among its main features is its wide range of inputs: 4 mic/line, 12 analog, 4 AES/EBU (AES3) stereo digital, 2 USB stereo digital, and up to 2 optional telephone lines. In addition, it allows for the incorporation of optional multichannel digital audio links, with 16 AoIP channels via two Ethernet connectors or up to 64 MADI input channels via fiber optics.

Finally, AEQ VISUALRPLUS is a comprehensive visual radio platform that enhances the traditional radio channel experience by incorporating video content aimed at the audience. The system automatically generates visual content alongside regular radio production, which can be combined for broadcast as an online program or even as a traditional television format, always working with PTZ cameras.

AEQ VISUALRPLUS incorporates a comprehensive mixer compatible with the NDI protocol, capable of managing up to 8 image inputs to generate the corresponding outputs for streaming. The system supports unlimited transitions, macro programming, and on-screen preview within a comprehensive FX MIXER platform that offers up to 4 channels for Picture in Picture, 6 DSK, superimposed graphic layers, as well as recording and playout functions and a multi-format AV Player with individual playback.

With this new infrastructure, Correio da Manhã Radio now has a fully integrated, IP-based technological environment that is ready to meet today’s multimedia content production and distribution needs. The combination of AEQ’s audio, communications, and visual radio solutions allows the Medialivre group to tackle the launch and development of its new station with a flexible, scalable system that is adapted to new digital consumption formats.

The entire project was led by the technical services department at Correio da Manhã Rádio in collaboration with AEQ’s local partner in the country, DECIMAGEN.
